When planning a route for a large vehicle such as a truck or a bus, TomTom Truck Navigation helps you to avoid potential hazards and obstacles such as low bridges, narrow streets or sharp road turns. To calculate the best route possible for a large sized vehicle, Truck Navigation considers information from a configurable, vehicle-specific profile and truck-specific map data.
Important : You must always pay attention to traffic signs, especially those relating to a vehicle’s dimensions and weight. We cannot guarantee 100% accuracy on a planned route and ignoring traffic signs related to vehicle restrictions can be dangerous.
Following you will find an explanation of all Truck Navigation features and a list with compatible devices.
Truck specific routing
Truck specific routing applies to the 45 countries covered by the Europe TRUCK map and it accounts for:
- The lower speeds of trucks on all roads
- Sharp angles that are difficult for trucks to take
- Trucks preferring left turns over right turns
- IQ Routes® to calculate the fastest route for any time of a day and week
Access restrictions
Truck specific restrictions for weight, dimensions and hazardous materials[1] are available for 22 countries:
On major and interconnecting roads in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and on major roads in the Czech Republic, Finland, Greece, Norway, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia.
Restriction and dead end warners
Safety can be increased by the prevention of unnecessary driving manouevres, especially with large vehicles such as trucks. TomTom Truck Navigation therefore displays restriction warnings on the navigation screen if you are driving without routeing instructions or if you are disregarding routeing instructions, based on the truck profile that is configured on the navigation device.
