Tom is designed to take care of itself. You can leave Tom by TomTom on in your car—it goes to sleep when your car is parked and your phone is out of range, then wakes when it detects motion—so it's ready to go when you are. If it doesn't give you visual or sound alerts, try the steps below.
Update
Make sure Tom and the TomTom app are up to date.
Phone settings
Check your phone settings and turn off any battery saver that could limit background activity. This helps keep the connection stable.
For the best results—and to get real-time alerts—set Location permission to Always. We only use your location while you're connected to Tom and for live traffic updates.
Enable alerts
Make sure you enable alerts in the TomTom app
- Open the TomTom app on your phone.
- Tap the Main Menu button in the top left.
- Tap Tom.
- Tap Alert preferences and select the alerts you want.
- Tap Sounds & lights and increase the volume and brightness.
