Manually installing a map

If TomTom Customer Support has advised you to install a map manually, select your Operating System below and follow the instructions.

• Windows 8
• Windows 7 & Vista
• Windows XP
• macOS

Windows 8

NOTE: Depending on the size of the map and speed of your computer, this can take up to a few hours to complete.

You can copy the map manually from a backup created in TomTom HOME.

1. Press the Windows key+E to open the Windows file explorer.

2. Open the following folder: Documents > TomTom > HOME > Backup > [device name] > Backup01 .

3. Open the folder InternalMemory or Storage

4. You see a folder with the name of the map you were trying to install, for instance Europe or United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland .

5. Right-click on this map folder and click Copy .

6. Press the Windows key+E to open the Windows file explorer.

7. Right-click on the removable drive, which is your TomTom navigation device, and click Paste . Wait until the computer has finished copying the folder onto your TomTom navigation device.

If you did not make a backup of your device, but you have downloaded the map before using TomTom HOME or copied it to your computer, you can use one of the following steps.

These instructions are for the built-in extraction program, so they could vary depending on the extraction program that is installed on your computer. Also, [name_of_map] is the name of the map you were asked to install manually, for instance Europe .

I've downloaded the map before…

1. Press the Windows key+E to open the Windows file explorer.

2. Open the following folder: Documents > TomTom > HOME > Download > complete > map .

3. You see a folder with the name of the map you were trying to install, for instance Europe or United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland . Open this folder.

4. Right-click on the file [name_of_map] .ZIP and click extract to .

5. Name the new folder exactly the same as the .ZIP file, but without .ZIP, for instance Europe or United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland .

6. Right-click on the file activation .ZIP and extract it to the same folder as in the previous step.

7. Right-click on the new folder and click Copy .

8. Press the Windows key+E to open the Windows file explorer.

9. Right-click on the removable drive, which is your TomTom navigation device, and click Paste . Wait until the computer has finished copying the folder onto your TomTom navigation device.

I've copied the map to my computer…
