If your TomTom navigation device shows "Waiting for GPS", shows the wrong location (for example, a different city or country), or doesn’t update your position, follow the steps below.
-
Check for software updates
-
Find an open area
-
Wait for a signal
Make sure your device is running the latest software and maps, as outdated versions can affect GPS performance. Detailed steps for updating the software of the device.
Note: For older generation devices, the software or QuickGPSfix file for your device needs to be updated. In order to quickly receive a GPS fix, connect to TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect and download QuickGPSfix updates. See: Updating your navigation device.
Go to an open outdoor area with a clear view of the sky, avoiding tunnels and tall buildings. GPS may not work properly indoors.
Stay outside with the device switched on and wait up to 5 minutes for the GPS fix. Your location should update automatically once the GPS signal is found.
If the device hasn’t been used for some time, the initial GPS fix may take longer, stay outside with a clear view of the sky and keep the device still until the location updates.
If you have an Intermittent signal
If your device has an intermittent signal, you may need to perform a soft reset or a factory reset on your device. After that reset, take your device outside to receive a GPS signal.
