If your navigation device does not receive a GPS signal, the driving view on your device or the location icon turns grey. You may see an error message on the screen, depending on your device model.
Note that even under optimal circumstances it can take a couple of minutes for your device to receive a signal. It is best not to move the device until it has signal.
There are several possible causes for GPS issues. Follow the checklist below to find the solution that works for you.

Obstructed view:
If you are in a wooded area, near tall buildings or water it can take longer than normal for your device to receive a GPS signal. Try moving to an area with an open view of the sky if possible. -
Latest Software is not installed:
Your device needs to have the latest software installed.

Low battery:
Make sure that the battery of your device is fully charged. -
Intermittent GPS Signal / not working correctly:
If your device has an intermittent signal, you may need to perform a soft reset or a factory reset on your device. After that reset, take your device outside to receive a GPS signal.
Note that it can take a little while after resetting a device before you receive a GPS signal. -
Software issue:
In some cases, if the software on your navigation device is not working as expected, you may need to restore the software of the device. See Recover your Wi-Fi connected device.
If you have a device that connects to MyDrive Connect, try the steps to restore the software.
Note: For older generation devices, the software or QuickGPSfix file for your device needs to be updated. In order to quickly receive a GPS fix, connect to TomTom HOME or MyDrive Connect and download QuickGPSfix updates. See: Updating your navigation device.
