Your device can only update using Wi-Fi® and must not be connected to the computer during the update. You can set up a Wi-Fi® network directly on your device to install the updates.
Before you begin, make sure you are connecting the device to an unrestricted network like a personal home network. Please be aware that updating over a public Wi-Fi® network, such as in an airport or hotel is not recommended due to the download speeds required to update the device.
Connecting to a Wi-Fi® network
To connect to a Wi-Fi® network, switch on the device and do the following:

Tap the main menu option from the guidance view.

, then tap on
Wi-Fi
®.The available networks around you are listed. Select the network you want to use. Depending on the settings of the network you’re connecting to, you may need to enter a username and password before continuing.

Connect

Once your device has successfully connected to the Wi-Fi® network, you see the status Connected under the name of your Wi-Fi® network.
It may take a few moments for your device to connect. If it takes too long, please check the credentials you are using to connect to the network. You can modify these by following the steps here .
Login or create a TomTom account
Once you have connected to a Wi-Fi® network, you need to login using a TomTom account. This ensures that the device is identified on our systems and that the correct updates are offered to you.
If you already have a TomTom account, you can login with those existing details. If you don’t have a TomTom account, you can create one on the device or on the TomTom website using create account .
- To login or to create an account, tap the main menu option from the guidance view.

and tap
MyDrive

You can either log in here, or create an account.
Downloading Updates
Map regions are available to save space on your device and download only what you need. Different maps can be added anytime from the Add map option.
To update the maps on your device, do the following:
- Tap the main menu option from the guidance view.
- Tap Settings .

Tap on Map and Display, and then tap
Downloaded maps
.
Map updates are offered for the installed maps on your device. You can select the option to update all from the bottom of the screen or select one map at a time and update.
Note: Make sure the MyDrive Connect application on your computer is closed. The Update button on the device will be disabled if the application is running on your computer. Maps can only be updated using Wi-Fi®. -
If you want to install a different map, tap
Add
from the bottom right and select the region. Maps are installed on the internal memory of the device.
Please be aware that World devices come with the Europe map installed and you can install other maps on the device using the Add button.
- Software updates and voice updates are installed from the Updates and new items option from settings.
- Services like speed camera and TomTom Traffic are updated automatically using a smartphone connection.
We recommend that you remain connected to a power supply while updating over Wi-Fi®.
Deleting or modifying your network credentials
If you want to re-enter your network username and password, you can simply modify and delete the credentials on your device.
- Tap the network’s name from available networks. The status of your network can be saved if the credentials are incorrect.

Modify
at the bottom right.

Then tap on
Forget
on the next screen.
Your network will be successfully removed and will be ready to reconnect as new.
