We need your heart rate and motion information to calculate your fitness points, and hence your Fitness Age. Therefore TomTom sports devices need to meet the following requirements to support fitness points:
- A built-in heart rate monitor.
- Activity tracking.
Fitness Points can be calculated for running, treadmill, trail running, walking, cycling, indoor cycling, gym and freestyle activities. You can also get points for skiing and snowboarding if the sports device is worn on your wrist and not over your jacket.
Which activities don’t give me fitness points?
Activities with a low heart rate
You need to get your heart rate up to a certain level, depending on your current VO2max, to start earning fitness points and lowering your Fitness Age.
Activities with no heart rate data
Swimming is a very good choice of activity as it combines low impact movement with relatively intense activity. However, heart rate monitoring is not possible during swimming so you can’t collect fitness points for swimming.
Skiing or snowboarding when the sports device is worn over your jacket
Wearing your watch over the sleeve during snow sport activities makes heart rate monitoring impossible and hence you can’t collect fitness points.
Important: You can’t collect fitness points when the heart rate sensor or heart rate tracking is switched off on your sports device.
