TomTom Traffic or LIVE Services may not work if your device cannot connect to TomTom Services, your subscription is not active, or the required internet connection is unavailable.
What Traffic or LIVE Services require:
- An active subscription
- A working internet connection
If your device fails to connect, these services won’t work.
Before you start
Check the following basics:
- Confirm you are in a country with TomTom traffic coverage. See: TomTom traffic coverage.
- Fully charge your device. A low battery can block the connection to TomTom services.
- Disconnect your device from your computer. Services don’t work while the device is connected.
- Check your GPS signal. You should see your current position and the map shouldn't be grayed out. See: My device shows 'Waiting for GPS' or it shows a wrong location.
- Turn on information sharing in your device settings. See: About sharing information to use TomTom services.
Select your device type to check the active services:
TomTom Wi-Fi® connected series
- Open the Main Menu
- Tap the question mark ?
- Tap About.
- Traffic and Speed Cameras should be listed as Activated.
- If the services are not active, make sure you are logged in to your TomTom account. If you can’t log in, try factory reset on the device.

TomTom GO & VIA series
- Open the Main Menu.
- Tap TomTom Services.

Network status should be Connected.
- If the traffic is not working, make sure your phone is connected to your navigation device.

Devices using traffic via RDS-TMC
- Open the Main Menu.
- Tap Settings.
- Tap Connections Network.
- The status shows Connected.
Still not working?
- Reset your device to factory settings. See: Factory reset my device.
- Wait for an hour and then check whether your device connects.
Errors messages:

Service Unavailable:
This usually means network issue and the device isn't connected to the internet. On devices with a built-in SIM, you may also see this if TomTom Traffic isn't available in the country you're currently in. -
We are having trouble accessing TomTom services:
This can appear when you try to log in on your device. If your password is incorrect, change your password and make sure you have a stable internet connection.
On devices with a built in SIM, this can also point to a SIM issue. To check:- Go to Settings > About and check the GPRS status or GPRS error code.
- If the status shows Disconnected, contact support for further help.
